Cuba, in the middle of the Caribbean sea, is a great snorkeling and diving spot. We took from Cienfuegos a sail boat . Getting to the isla de la Juventud by public transportation is quite difficult for tourists. We decided to go there by boat from Cienfuegos. The first stop of the cruise, during which we were joined by dolphins, was Cayo Guano del Este.

The main focal point of Guano Del Este is its rocket-shaped lighthouse, built by the Russians in the 60’s during the cold war. There’s also a pleasant sandy beach. The cay has deep waters along its western shore with the exception of a patch of very shallow coral immediately in front of the lighthouse. If you like quite places, you will like this one, as there only a few persons living there, a lighthouse keeper, and some fishermen.

The island has a very well preserved corals’ barrier, due to the very few humans who go there.
